A MOMENT in history was recreated in South East Cornwall at the weekend as the Atlantic Coast Express (ACE) steam train returned to recreate part of its route from London to Penzance. The ACE last carried passengers along the north coasts of Devon and Cornwall via Ilfracombe, Bude and Padstow in 1964. Enthusiasts lined stations, bridges and viewpoints in Saltash and Liskeard to watch as two engines, Nunney Castle (5029) and Braunton (34046), pulled around 12 carriages along the track. During its four-day visit to the South West, the steam train made special journeys on branch lines including those connecting with Newquay and Falmouth.
