REGARDING the traffic problems in Old Road, Liskeard, with the opening of the new combined infants and junior school, I feel that one of the main reasons for building the school on this site has been forgotten. When the parents group, MOSS (Move Our School Soon), campaigned several years ago for the junior school to move from Varley Lane to the new site, it was on the grounds that walking from Varley Lane up Dean Hill and along Old Road to access the sport field was too dangerous for the children. When it was pointed out that more children might be put in danger if the school were moved to its present site, the response from the group was that to avoid this problem it would be school policy that parents would always be asked to walk to school with their children, and driving actively discouraged. I should like to ask, therefore, whether and how this has been done over the last few years? One idea is that points might be given to children and parents who walk to school each day and then a weekly prize draw held.
