Year 7 students at Liskeard School and Community College have all been issued with their own individual BBC micro:bit – small devices which can connect to a PC using a USB cable or to a smartphone using Bluetooth.
During the 1980s the BBC Micro was the most popular computer and helped inspire the first generation of computer programmers.
The BBC has now decided to repeat this success and has given every Year 7 pupil in the UK their own mini computer – the micro:bit.
Students have been finding out how to create images and display scrolling text on the 25 LED lights, create mini-games, and utilise the on-board compass and temperature sensor.
At the end of term, the pupils will be taking their micro:bit home to continue experimenting.
