Three local schools were the recipients of donated recycled garden hand tools from Trago’s Liskeard store.
Liskeard Hillfort Primary School (featured in this week’s print edition of the paper), St Martin’s Church of England School, Liskeard, and St Neot Community Primary School each received a bundle of recycled garden tools from Trago, as part of a joint event run with Tools Shed, a charitable project that is part of the Conservation Foundation.
The retailer recently held a weekend event encouraging customers to drop off old and broken garden hand tools, which were then collected by Tools Shed and given to the workshop at Dartmoor Prison for the prisoners to repair and donate to schools and local community groups.
Teaching Assistants Laura Park and Becky Gravener from St Martin’s said: ’We’ll be using these tools to help re-build the memorial garden to one of our former pupils.’
Lauren Kelly, Year 2 and year 3 class teacher at St Neot Community Primary School added: ’We run a weekly Gardening Club at lunchtime, growing fruit and vegetables. The children really enjoy gardening and it’s lovely to have some tools for that.’
The tool handover was done jointly by Ellie Robertson, daughter of Trago owner and chairman, Bruce Robertson, and Richard Leatherby of Tools Shed. Ellie said: ’This is a great way for us to give something really useful to our local community and particularly to the children as part of their learning experience. Of course, there’s a great tradition of gardening in Cornwall so it’s wonderful to see the younger generation getting involved.’
