LAPTOPS and routers will be provided to some low-income families struggling to homeschool their children during the lockdown.
From today, schools will be able to apply to the Department for Education (DfE) on a case-by-case basis for laptops for their GSCE students in Year 10, and other pupils whose circumstances make them eligible.
The Government has also pledged to provide 4G routers to families with secondary school-aged children who have no broadband or mobile access.
The aim is to prevent students from falling behind while schools remain closed.
Meanwhile, a virtual school, The Oak National Academy, will be opened online tomorrow. The digital school, supported by Government funding, will contain video lessons and other resources created by 40 teachers from around the UK.
The BBC has also launched a new 14-week series of curriculum-based programmes aimed at ages 5-14.
The Bitesize Daily programmes are available on the BBC iPlayer.
