CHILDREN at Burraton Community Primary School in Saltash have been learning about exploration – directly from an explorer. Year 1 pupils have been finding out about great explorers and their contribution to the history and understanding of the world. The children focused particularly on Sir Ranulph Fiennes and, as part of their studies, they thought of questions they would like to ask him. As a class, they then composed a letter and emailed it to the explorer. Subsequently, Sir Ranulph replied to them. ‘This has been a fantastic experience for the children: they have found out about his expeditions firsthand through contact with him,’ said a school spokesperson. ‘Sir Ranulph Fiennes sent pictures to the children which really brought the topic alive.
