ADULTS who want to go to university, but do not have the qualifications they need to get there, are being offered a helping hand by a college in Cornwall.

This September, Duchy College in Stoke Climsland is launching Access to Higher Education courses in Nursing, Health and Social Sciences, Allied Health Professions (Science) and Sports Science.

The Sports Science option is perfect for those wishing to progress on to teaching, physiotherapy, sports psychology and many more professions.

Courses are specifically designed for adults looking to return to study, with timetables that are built to help them balance work, family and other commitments.

Team Lead for Access at Duchy College, Kevin Smale, said: ’We are very excited about our move to Duchy College where our students will benefit from the excellent facilities and stunning rural location.

’Our experienced Access to HE team has worked hard to create top-class, life-changing diplomas that open the world of higher education to people from all backgrounds, allowing them to reach their full potential.’

Each year around 50,000 adults study an Access to Higher Education course, which is an ideal stepping stone to a university qualification.

’We are excited to offer this curriculum from our Stoke Climsland campus. With excellent transport links, we feel it will really give learners of all ages a great opportunity when they are deciding where to study in their route to higher education,’ he added.

Head of College at Duchy College, Jamie Crisp, said it was ’great that we will now be able to offer adults the opportunity to refresh their study skills, build confidence and open the gateway to a new career.’

’This is an exciting time for our College, particularly with the development of our research and training facility Future Farm, which will be completed very soon.’
