A school which was placed into special measures five years ago has been given encouragement from Ofsted, just two weeks after its new principal took up her role.
Callington Community College has been given an overall rating of ‘Requires Improvement’ but the school was deemed ‘Good’ in the areas of behaviour, student personal development and the sixth form provision.
Inspectors emphasised leadership and quality of education overall as areas where more work needed to be done.
Ofsted has told the school it expects it to reach ‘Good’ in all areas in 18 months’ time.
Principal Wendy Ainsworth, who took up her position in September, said: ‘It’s really good outcome considering the journey the school has been on. It was where we had expected ourselves to be.’
