A LOOE author will be the first to read to Cornish kids as a bedtime stories scheme goes online this evening.
The Real Heroes Read Books project is aimed at offering parents a helping hand.
At 6.30 every weeknight on Together for Families and Cornwall Council social media channels there’ll be a different children’s story, read by council staff, teachers and members of the community.
The bedtime stories will feature some well-known tales as well as giving a platform for Cornish writers to share their work.
Cabinet member for Children, Health and Wellbeing, and Liskeard Councillor, Sally Hawken, said: ’The Real Heroes Read Books campaign, which launched last September, was created to support the language skills of under-fives and it was a massive success.
’We are bringing back the bedtime stories to support parents and children during the Covid-19 outbreak and we are thankful for the support of the authors and publishers with this.
’We are now appealing for local authors, if they have a story to share, to get in touch and they could feature as part of our bedtime story series. The support we’ve already received has been great from local authors, and one of the stories from Ellie Jackson at Wild Tribe Heroes will be our first story today.’
