Saltash United 6 Launceston 1
'That's about the best we've played all season,' said Saltash manager Tony Richardson, after his young side demolished their high scoring visitors. Saltash came out of the blocks quickly, and with Danny Murdoch having an outstanding game, goals were an inevitability. Despite this good start it took Saltash 15 minutes to open the scoring when Danny Zalik received the ball in the penalty area before turning his man to shoot into the corner of the net. Goals two and three followed soon after. Jake Benney pounced on a poor attempted clearance to tap in number two, before Paul Sidey dispossessed an attacker to gallop half the length of the field, beating two defenders on the way, before shooting past the advancing keeper. The Ashes started the second half a little sluggishly, but once Gareth Jones turned his marker before rounding the Launceston keeper to score, the game was over as a serious contest. Jones then grabbed his second, as did Zalik, leaving Shane Hooper to score a late consolation goal. The win elevated Saltash into third place and genuine contenders for honours.
