SALTASH United were worthy winners of their Boxing Day derby against Liskeard Athletic, which drew a crowd of 234 to Kimberley Stadium for the Carlsberg South West Peninsula League Premier Division match.

Said Liskeard manager Darren Edwards: 'We were very poor, and three goals in the first 20 minutes just killed us.

'We told certain individuals to keep tight to people and they simply didn't do their job. Consequently, they (Saltash) murdered us in midfield until we changed it around.

'If I was honest, we had eight of our squad who were just not at the races in this game – and in any game, let alone a derby game, that is not good enough.'

Said Saltash joint manager Stuart Dudley: 'We are obviously pleased to have taken all three points and I felt that we were worthy winners.

'Although it was 3-1 at half-time, it was pleasing that we were able to continue pressing and making chances in the second half, and could have ended up winning by a larger margin.'

Marc Thorne's 14th-minute effort was Dudley's pick of the goals, and the manager admitted: 'Our second goal was especially pleasing as it came as a result of something we have worked on in training.'
