Cornwall took on cross-Tamar rivals Devon at the Dragon Leisure Centre in Bodmin last Saturday in

the first fixture of the 2008-09 ESMBA Inter County Championship campaign.

Cornwall's Premier Team started well claiming an advantage in the first of the four sessions thanks to wins for both the Pairs, Gillian Cawrse and Percy Tripp (17-11) and Geoff Lane and Bill Sharp (16-9), along with a draw in the singles for Nigel Nicholls.

Devon regrouped after the lunch interval winning three out of four games in the third session, while the Duchy's only win was recorded by Gillian Cawrse and Percy Tripp. 

However, the final session proved to be disaster for the home side as they lost all four games.

Meanwhile, the first session of the A Team's match saw Devon take an advantage they would not surrender for the day.

The Duchy's points in the session were recorded by the singles players – Graham Reeves (19-6) and a draw for Peter Spargo.

Just one win in the second session, recorded by the four of Anthony Jago, Thomas Rigler, Una Prideaux and Norman Ward (11-4) saw Devon further extend their lead at the halfway point.

The third session went the way of Cornwall thanks to victories in both singles for Peter Spargo and Graham Reeves. The final session saw Devon wrap up the match win with three wins from the four games,

Cornwall's next fixture will be in away to Dorset on Sunday, October 19.
