There has been a lot of discussion and letters to the Cornish Times over the traffic calming measures in Crafthole.
I feel it is sad that these measures had to be introduced only because careless and undisciplined drivers are hurtling through Crafthole at dangerous speed.
There are no pedestrian safe havens and they have to walk on the road.
The increased sizes of lorries going through the village is causing structural damage to the properties. Lorries are higher than the houses and create a total eclipse in the houses. Rattling windows and vibrations can be felt in the houses as they go through.
Extremely rude comments/gestures are made to the residents when they dare to remind drivers to go slower.
The 20mph and 30mph speed restriction is mainly a guideline and drivers do not have to go that fast.
The total lack of respect for residents' properties and drives is upsetting. Drivers turn in our drives and even park on private property. Would they like it on their property?
It sometimes puzzles me when there are traffic signs 'Give way to oncoming traffic' and drivers still go head on to an oncoming vehicle or even overtake cars that are patiently waiting for cars to go through the village. Why the hurry?
We have a mixture of young residents and elderly. Surely they have a right to be able to walk safely on the road.
This is my plea: please drivers respect the residents of Crafthole, adhere to the speed limits and be a bit patient – remember the road was built for horses and carts.
