People are being encouraged to leave their cars behind and take the train to Looe's torchlight procession on Thursday. A change to train times by First Great Western, following a request from Looe Town Council and the Devon and Cornwall Rail Partnership, should make travelling back from the procession easier. The last train from Looe will leave at 8.01pm – 18 minutes later than usual – meaning that people can travel back to Liskeard and Plymouth after the procession has ended. One of the starting points for the procession is the Globe Inn, opposite the station, and people will be able to travel to the town by the 4.36pm or 6.02pm trains from Liskeard; assembly time at the Globe is from 6.30-6.45pm. Richard Burningham, manager of the Devon and Cornwall Rail Partnership, said he was pleased First Great Western had been able to be flexible and make travel to and from the procession easier. 'I hope people will take the opportunity to leave their cars behind, or in the large, free car park at Liskeard Station, and take the train,' he said.
