There was drama in the early hours of this morning when a fire broke out in a flat in a Cornish town.
Neighbours spotted smoke coming from the property and dialled 999.
Then people entered the flat and put the fire out.
The incident unfolded at around 12.30am in Turf Street, Bodmin.
Two fire engines from Bodmin Community Fire Station responded to the 999 call.
On arrival, the crews found that the fire, involving a cooker and an extractor fan above it, was out.
A Cornwall Fire Service spokesperson said: ‘The fire had been extinguished by members of the public who had entered the property after seeing smoke.
‘An ambulance was requested for one casualty suffering smoke inhalation. Whilst waiting for the ambulance, fire crews administered oxygen to the casualty.
‘Crews fitted a smoke detector and left the casualty in the care of the ambulance service.’
This morning the fire service posted information about keeping an eye on your cooking. It also stressed that smoke detectors save lives and urged people to make sure their homes have working smoke detectors fitted.
