AT the latest Saltash Town Council Development Committee meeting, it was announced that discussions had been held with developers Davis Langdon with regards to the town's Railway Station project. Committee Chairman, Martin Gee, said that a draft plan was shown with practical completion due for October 2006. The estimated cost of the build will approach the £2 million mark, and there are some practical working constraints, with the station building situated so close to the track. However, Davis Langdon is set to start to build a business case for the development. He will then meet with councillor Gee and the mayor, Sue Hooper. It had been reported that pigeons are still causing problems in Albert Road. Councillor Brian Carter said that he had seen an article where Wandsworth Council had obtained a High Court injunction which required Rail Track to proof their bridge. It was recommended that the Town Council should go back to Rail Track and refer to this article, and also ask Cornwall County Council to write to them. Councillor Martin Gee said he had received a copy of the feasibility study for a Tamar Ferry crossing. In the report it states that additional car parking space will be needed at Waterside with the boat storage site on Brunel Green put forward as a possible solution. It is anticipated that more than 100 more car parking spaces will be needed in Saltash. A new pontoon is also suggested by the side of the old Town Quay or north of the road bridge. The ferry service will also need subsidy to operate.
