Durning Lawrence Cornwall Charity Cup semi-final Bodmin Town 1 Saltash Utd 0 Saltash United are in danger of finishing a very promising season with the trophy cupboard bare after losing a second consecutive cup semi-final to Bodmin. The Ashes did beat Bodmin in the Cornwall Senior Cup semi-final only to unluckily lose to Truro in the final, but since then they have lost 2-1 to Alan Carey's side in the last four of the Throgmorton Cup and again in Tuesday's charity cup semi-final at Liskeard. Saltash must now win at Bodmin in the league next week if they are to have any chance of silverware this season. This was not a game of missed chances as defence and midfield tended to rule throughout the 90 minutes. The only real chance of a goalless first half saw Ashes goalkeeper Chris Wearing make a great save from Karl Turner, but it was Saltash who then had the best opportunity to score on 63 minutes. The Ashes were awarded a penalty for a handball but Tony Bouch's spot-kick lacked conviction, or direction, and was easily saved by Bodmin's former professional goalkeeper Kevin Miller. Worse was to follow for Bouch five minutes later, as it was he who managed to send an attempted clearance past Wearing into his own net for the only goal of the game. PREMIER DIVISION Dartmouth 3 Liskeard Ath 1 ANOTHER match, another lead thrown away was the case at Longcross for the Blues as this inexorable season gradually comes to a close. Liskeard were without player-manager Lee Harvey, James Alexander and goalkeeper Simon Zinn - though James Davis proved a sound deputy. Despite this Liskeard gave as good as they got early on before, as was the case against St Blazey last week, collapsing late on. 'In the last month or so the only opposition we've come up against is ourselves as this was a carbon copy of last week and we don't know how to hold a lead,' admitted Harvey. 'It seems to be a psychological thing and it's very frustrating,' he added. Once again the Blues took a deserved lead in a game with ace striker Chris Wright scoring a 15th minute effort after a mix-up in the home defence. Despite Liskeard exerting a measure of control, Wright failed to add to his single goal, missing two more good chances before half time, and this eventually to cost Liskeard dear, though it is worth pointing out that there were 10 other Blues on the park as well as ace poacher Wright. Once Dartmouth levelled in the 65th minute, through Simon Lewcock, the wheels simply fell off for Liskeard as the home side made sure of victory with an 80th minute Chris Hooper penalty and a Dan Griffiths goal five minutes from time. After almost a full season of managerial experience now, the gloves appear to be coming off for Harvey as he starts preparing for next season in charge at Lux Park. After the debacles at the start of this season, Harvey is determined to give the Lux Park faithful a team to be proud of next season. Doubtless, like every other manager in the league, Harvey is already wheeling and dealing behind the scenes which could spell trouble for those currently wearing Blue. 'If the players that are here now want to be part of next season, they had better start showing it,' said Harvey, who was pulling no punches. 'We all know that next year we are determined to be a force to be reckoned with, and the planning has already started - enough said,' he warned. Falmouth Town 1 Torpoint Athletic 1 A top five finish is certainly on the cards for Torpoint Athletic after this hard-won point at Bickland Park on Tuesday night. 'To be fair they (Falmouth) were the better side on the night so we were happy with a point at the end of the game,' said Torpoint assistant manager Gary Tiffany. 'I don't know whether it was the long journey or the little time we had to prepare once we arrived, as we didn't seem to get going until 20 minutes from time. 'I have to have a special mention for our goalkeeper Joey Syndercombe who pulled off three fantastic saves when the score was 1-0 and that kept us in the game,' added Tiffany. Falmouth were first to find the back of the net as Rob Francis unleashed a terrific drive from fully 30 yards that flew high into the middle of the goal. The travelling faithful had to wait until 17 minutes from time for their team to equalise as they were awarded a free-kick 20 yards from goal. Bradley Yeo's first effort came to nothing but the referee ordered a retake for encroachment by the Falmouth defenders and the Torpoint midfielder did not need another invitation as his drive flew over the defensive wall and dipped into the corner of the net. St Blazey 0 Tavistock 1 THE end of this season probably cannot come quickly enough for a St Blazey side who, normally used to being in at the death, have found themselves floundering in mid-table. True enough, manager Dave Philp has had to embark on a massive re-building job, which, at the end of the day, has enabled the Green and Blacks to remain in this league ready to fight again next season. That said, there have been far too many defeats at Blaise Park this season and Tavistock duly added their name to the list of beneficiaries. One Glynn Hobbs goal was all it took to condemn St Blazey despite the home side creating several chances of their own. The game began brightly enough for the home side with the Lambs avoiding an early slaughter thanks to their goalkeeper Andy Meeds. Will Tinsley and Neil Slateford were both denied by the Tavistock custodian while Mike Body saw a long-range free-kick beat Meeds but not the Tavvy crossbar. Meanwhile Hobbs, the dynamite striker with a temperament to match, was enjoying his normal game. One minute a rampaging menace, the next getting himself booked for a challenge on home captain Lee Whetter. The pattern of the game was spurned chances at either end and this continued after the break with St Blazey pressing and Tavistock dangerous on the counter-attack. Hobbs meanwhile was riding his luck, somehow managing to avoid a second yellow card when he appeared to want to swap shirts a trifle too soon with Body. Having not left the pitch, Hobbs instead left his mark on the game with a pearler of a goal, spinning and lashing home from 25 yards in one 79th minute movement to score the only goal of the game.
