Friends and family gathered to celebrate the 100th birthday of a proud Cornishwoman in Polperro.
Doris Cocks was born Doris Netta Bicknell on September 6 1917 to William and Ada in Newquay.
Doris was part of a large family and the Wesley Methodist Church played a big part in family life.
It was at chapel one Sunday that William Colenso Cocks from Lower Margate Farm, Bodmin was the preacher, and Doris was in the congregation. It was love at first sight and they were married in the church where they met on October 12 1937.
Colenso became a fully accredited Methodist local preacher at the age of eighteen and preached regularly for the next 70 years.
The couple set up home in Looe and two sons, both now deceased, and two daughters followed.
Today Doris counts six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren among her descendants.
