A four-figure donation from the Aberdeen Charitable Foundation ensured that a daring rescue could be undertaken safely by the Cornwall Search and Rescue Team last weekend.
Two new portable remote lighting systems were vital to the success of the rescue, which saw the team – made up of volunteers from all walks of life – extracting a 50-year-old walker who had fallen down an abandoned mine shaft near Cot Valley, St Just.
The £3,250 donation from the Foundation has also allowed the team to purchase 40 new helmets, replacing outdated safety equipment and ensuring that all volunteers are properly protected.
The equipment can be used across Cornwall.
