INCREASING quantities of dog mess found on many of Saltash's playing fields in recent weeks has resulted in some members of the local rugby teams having to remove it before matches. Chapel Field, where Saltash Rugby Club play, has been particularly badly hit by the problem. Nick Rich, press officer at the Club, said: 'This has been an issue for 20 years now, and it just goes in peaks and troughs. However, with our youth set-up meaning we have more players, we have come to notice it more.' One of the Rugby Club's teams features children aged just six years old, and Mr Rich is concerned that the mess may discourage parents from letting their children take part in matches. 'Some players do come into contact with it during the game and it can be a risk for young people. 'As a former dog owner myself, I know clearing up the mess is part of the responsibility. But some people just don't want to be bothered.' Youth Chairman at the Rugby Club, Dan Norris, has recently contacted Caradon Dog Wardens, who have informed the Club that they will be increasing their patrols of the area. In the meantime, dog owners using the site are asked to be co-operative and considerate and make use of the dog waste disposal bins.
