LISKEARD will be in 'spring clean' mode tomorrow (Saturday) when all sectors of the town will be out in force as part of National Community Clear Up Day.

Local businesses and school and community groups have all been gearing up in readiness for the big day during the past few days of Clean Cornwall Week.

Liskeard Community Unity, the residents' group – which was set up by Becky Allen – will be out in force across the town, and students at Liskeard School and Community College will be litter-picking around their campus and playing fields.

Every shop in the town is also being encouraged to 'muck in' and get involved.

Traders are being asked to wash down paintwork and signs outside their shops, deadhead any plants and shrubs they have around their premises, and touch up the paintwork on doors and window frames.

Leon Fisher, the new chairman of Liskeard Traders' Association, said: 'The annual events we have planned in the town for Easter Saturday look like being busier and better than ever, so we want to take this opportunity to spruce up our shops in readiness to look our best.'

Secretary of Liskeard Chamber of Commerce Jane Pascoe said: 'Winter is just over and Easter is our chance to show residents and visitors just what we have to offer this spring. It's time to get ready!'

The clean-up day is being co-ordinated by the Liskeard Town Centre Partnership CIC, which represents a cross section of business, community and third sector

expertise.
