A presenter and DJ on Liskeard FM popped the question live on air and got the reply he was hoping for – yes!

Dan Sturrock, 33, was presenting Sturrock's Sunday Sessions at the radio station when he asked his partner of five years, Kelly Tyler, 33, to marry him. He had arranged for Kelly's mum Colette to be at their Liskeard home with her, as well as their two young children, to ensure she was tuned in.

'I couldn't believe it when I heard what Dan was saying,' said Kelly. 'I was shocked and surprised but I didn't think twice about what my answer would be. I'm very happy.'

After the proposal, Dan asked Kelly to look under their Christmas tree, where he said she would find a white box holding her diamond engagement ring, a bottle of champagne and chocolates.

'After I proposed, I asked Kelly to text me her answer and I think all our listeners were holding their breath,' said Dan.

'I told everyone a text had come through and faded out the music, only to announce it was from T Mobile telling me some free texts had just been added to my account.

'I think that caused a bit of a laugh around Liskeard, but the next text was the one I was waiting for. I was so nervous, I can't remember what music I played before and after the proposal, but I was over the moon and relieved to see the "yes" word.'

Dan said he had enjoyed being on radio so much and, as it was his last session before the station's run ended, he had started thinking how he could explain over the airwaves what was truly important to him. 'I decided I would let my partner Kelly know how much she means to me, and how our family unit is a blessing,' he said. 'Then I popped the question!'
