THE hugely popular Mount Edgcumbe American and Classic Car Show and Summer Fair has been cancelled for the second year running due to Covid-19.

It was with a heavy heart the decision was made, say organisers, but with coronavirus cases on the rise they felt there was no option.

The annual day-long summer event raises funds for the Friends of Mount Edgcumbe Country Park and healthcare charity Cornwall Hospice Care.

Working with the park’s management team, the event attracts around 12,000 people a year. As a result of Covid-19 restrictions, the show and fair were last held in 2019.

Speaking on behalf of everyone involved, Jane Appleton said that the latest pause on the easing of government restrictions guided the decision process.

“This wasn’t an easy decision to make, but the safety of our visitors, stall holders, staff and volunteers is paramount and with Covid-19 on the rise again in Cornwall, we felt we had no option but to cancel again this year.

“We know this will be disappointing to our exhibitors, stall holders and visitors, but we want people to have an enjoyable and safe day out.”

This year’s event would have been the 25th anniversary of the show. Organisers have set a date of Sunday August 7 for 2022.

“We’ll now start working on next year’s Fair which promises to be a grand and exciting day out and a celebration to look forward to,” said Jane.

The search is now on for volunteers to help make the 2022 Fair a day to remember. People are needed to join the organising sub-committee on the run up to the event and to volunteer on the day itself helping with marshalling in our extensive car park, stewarding the Car Show and taking payments at the entry points into the event.

“Our volunteers always have a super day helping out and we make sure everyone gets time off to wander round the Classic cars and the many stalls that set up in the park,” says Jane .

“The 2022 Fair is going to be one to remember and for our volunteers, an opportunity to help support one of Cornwall’s most beautiful parks and local charity Cornwall Hospice Care.”
