PARENTS or carers who are looking to develop their skills, train for a new career or find out how they could help in the voluntary sector are being invited to attend a special event in Torpoint which will provide all the information they need. The Way Ahead event will be supported by representatives from a number of organisations, including Link to Learning, Citizens Advice Bureau, Lone Parent Advisor, Family Information Services, NHS trainer, and Cornwall Works and Wild. Representatives of the organisations will be on hand to offer support, advice and information about getting back to work, and how this may affect benefits, learning new skills and further education, volunteering opportunities and support with child care – all under one roof! It will also offer the opportunity for parents to chat and relax in a friendly, supportive environment and take advantage of the free creche, refreshments and stay-and-play sessions. The Way Ahead event is part of the Open House information service and stay-and-play, initiative which hopes to provide parents with the opportunity to gain easy access to helpful information in an informal and sociable setting. This service, run by Caradon Family Services, is part of the Torpoint Children's Centre which is due to open in June. There are six children's centres due to open this year in the Caradon area, the first of which will be in Saltash on May 21. The aim is that all children and their families in Cornwall will be able to access children's centre facilities by 2010.
