Derek Holley was chosen on Thursday evening by Saltash Town Council to be the next town mayor. Derek, 57, was born at Calne, Wiltshire, and is married to Margaret. They have two children, Sarah Harbour and Mark Holley, and two grandchildren . A retired science teacher, Derek first taught in Ludlow, Shropshire, then came to Torpoint Comprehensive School in 2003. He has been on the town council for more than eight years (two four- year sessions), and Caradon District Council for three years. He is a town councillor for Pill ward. He is chairman of the road safety committee and former chairman of K2 Youth Club management committee. He is also a member of Saltash Wesley Church, a keen gardener, DIY enthusiast, and enjoys caravaning. His wife Margaret will be the mayoress, and the mayor choosing ceremony will be held in May. Sue Hooper, who has been mayor of Saltash three times, will be the deputy mayor. She has served on the town council for 21 years and she was a district councillor for four years.
