Roy Boston, who lived at Saltash and was headteacher at Millbrook School for 25 years, died in Liskeard Hospital, after a long illness, aged 83, and the funeral was held at Pillaton Parish Church. Roy was born in Yorkshire in 1923 and, after winning a scholarship, he attended Leeds Grammar School. On leaving, he worked for the Yorkshire Electricity Board, and then joined the Army serving in the King's Own Scottish Borderers as an infantry officer. Later, he served in the Black Watch serving in North Africa and took part in the Sicily landings in 1943. He returned to the England suffering with malaria and was ill for months. He was later transferred to the War Office dealing with returning prisoners of war. He retired from the Army in 1948 as captain. He married Glen in 1945 but the marriage was dissolved many years later. In 1948, he attended Carlyon Training College for three years on a teacher-training course. His first appointment was at a secondary school in Cardiff. Later, he taught in Yorkshire. In 1959, he became deputy head of Saltash Longstone Primary School He was appointed headtacher at Millbrook Church of England School in 1963, and remained in the post for 25 years. Later, he married Ann and lived at Pillaton, Saltash, and was a keen golfer, playing at St Mellion, and won most of the Fossil trophies over the years. He was also founder chairman of Saltash Round Table Roy was diagnosed with cancer in 1994, but he carried on with his many aspects of life getting on with things as best he could. He was well known in the area over the years and former pupils will be thankful for his teaching.
