An excellent 7-2 victory over the Ship B lifted the Blue Peter off the bottom for the first time since 1996.
The Blue started well after Joe Sturgess, Monica Field-Johnson and Gill Bickell had 2-0 wins over Jess Toms, Ben Oliver and Justin Newman. Maggie Wildman pulled one back for the Ship with a distance win over Terry Bickell. Then TV star Vern Oxley put the Blue 4-1 up beating Maureen Brown 2-0. Betty Turner made it 4-2 at the expense of Mark Redgrave but that was it for the Ship as the Blue won all three doubles for a memorable win.
Three weeks ago the Rowett A looked like title contenders, sitting third just behind the top two teams but three disastrous results in a row have blown any chances they had. This week's hammering came from Pelynt B with Pelynt taking all six singles (and managing to win two of the doubles for a change) for an 8-1 win. This means the Rowett A have only picked up five out of a possible 27 points in the last three weeks so look out, tonight's opponents!
The Millhouse travelled down to the 3 Pilchards and left with a 5-4 victory. The singles were shared three apiece with wins for Ennis Puckey, John Dalton and Tina Dicks for the Pilchards with Mick Knight, John Yaxley and Paul Hoskin winning for the Mill. It all went down to the last doubles where the Millhouse came out on top.
Third placed Rowett B had a sound 5-4 win over the resurgent Pelynt A. Dave Nutty put the Rowett one-up. Joan Geach then levelled with her usual win over Mike Pengelly. Darren Thomas put the Rowett in front but then the upset of the week as Mark 'The Power' Palmer defeated Dennis shaw. Roger Pill and Malcolm Taper made it 4-2 with Taper taking out Dean Haynes (who did have the second longest winning streak). The Rowett then won the one doubles they needed for the win.
The Noughts travelled to the Caradon and came away with a 7-2 win. Winning for the Noughts were Andy Grant, Andy Bryant, Grant Stanbury, Cess Pethick and Grant Guild whilst Jim Svenson replied for the Campers, who also won one doubles.
The Legion's good win continued as they beat the Ship A 7-2. The Legion reeled off the first four singles as Dick Hinton, Paul Blower, Colin Puckey and Kevin Crapp all won. George Wildman and Alan Brown replied for the Ship but that was their lot as the Legion won all the doubles.
