LISKEARD in Bloom volunteers say they are eagerly looking forward to next year as they plan for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee – and entry into a prestigious cup.
“We’ve had such wonderful feedback from our residents and business customers urging us to enter the South West in Bloom competition that we won a gold award for in back in 2019,” said John Hesketh.
“So we can proudly announce that we will be entering the town for the Pennant Cup in 2022. The town is judged not just on its flowers, but its level of community participation and environmental responsibility in our work, so the work will start early. We’re hoping that everyone is up for the cup!”
Meanwhile, Bloom gardeners are already working on a display that will be unique to Liskeard as well reflecting the majesty of the Queen’s Jubilee.
“Back in 1953 during her coronation, the Queen wore a distinctive purple Robe of Estate made of silk velvet and decorated with gold,” said John.
“Then four years later, when she visited Liskeard, she wore a dress of navy blue and white. This is the inspiration for the Jubilee designs you will be seeing around the town. Look out for Jubilee Crowns. A special make-over for some of our much-loved buildings. And a showstopper of a display on The Parade!”
Spring bulbs dotted around the Fountain monument will give a hint of what’s to come later in the summer, says the LIB team.
