Paul v Callington

Callington kept up their winning run going in a quarter final pairing of the Wickham Wines Cup quarter final with a workman like performance in the wild wild west against County Two challengers Paul.

Batting first Andy Shorten batted well for his 19 and offered good support to John Sylvester who was his shot making self smacking 55 off as many balls to keep the score board ticking over. He was eventually stumped, and then Jamie Hatch played a captain's innings with a good 48. At the end Andy Brenton registred a few big hits in his 23, and Callinston could be pleased with their 190 for 7. For Paul, Nick Davies and Craig Osborne both took 2 for 23 off their allotted 8 overs.

After enjoying a splended tea, Callington quickly got on with the job in hand, Sylvester had Paul Osborne caught behind by Nick White in the first over, Button and Vercesi soon followed. But then Neil Edwards and Neil Davies put on a mini stand, which was broken by the wily Mark Pluckrose. After that no one had any real answer to Pluckrose's swingers and he ended up with 4 wickets for just 13 runs.

Edwards made 27 and Craig Osborne 16 but Paul were never at the races. Mark Prodgen was unable to bat, after spliting the webbing on his hand in the field, and Paul finished 96 runs short. Sylvester had a good all round preformance with 3 for 16 to go with his half century, and Callington now look forward to their home fixture in the semi-final.
