Callington v Camborne

On Sunday, Camborne were the visitors to New Road, and again Callington lost the toss and Camborne decided to take first knock.

Skipper Kevin Roberts was out early on, and it soon became obvious that Camborne's innings was going to revolve around opener Dave Pascoe. He made a fine 89, assisted by cameo innings from Daniel Mitchell with 15, professional Derek Tate with 21 and Ross Pope with 17 n.o. Mark Pluckrose took three for 39 off 13 overs, John Sylvester two for 32, and Jon Nicholls two for 22. The final total of 185 was a challenging one, and Callington needed a good start.

This was not to be, and the home side were soon reduced to 18 for three, and in trouble. Andy Hocking and Jamie Hatch put on 41 but thanks to some fine Camborne fielding failed to make any real in-roads. Hocking made 28, and then Andy Brenton decided to take the fight to the opposition and opened his shoulders. Some optimists in the crowd though he was going to pull the game out of the fire, but when he was bowled by Scott Curnow for 40, the game was up, although he and Nick White with 15 had given Camborne something to think about.

In the end Callington were bowled out for 137 with Curnow's seamers taking five for 38 to continue Callington's dismal start to the season.
