Torpoint XI v Mayor's XI

The eagerly awaited visit of the Mayor's XI provided a special day, as Torpoint had not won the trophy since 1994. Skipper Chris Fever, winning the toss, put the Mayor's XI into bat with a good straight bat the order of the day.

However, accurate line and length bowling from Al Radley and G Naylor made runs hard to come by. D Full showed his talent as he claimed two very good slip catches. There were also solid batting displays from Wand (22) and Dawe (39). Game on!

Torpoint bowler Hussey, breaking the back of the Mayor's XI, was aided by good fielding and catching, the exception being Dan Murray, who normally catches everything, deciding to make an 'easy' catch look spectacular, breaking a finger in the process! Setting Point 123 to win the shield, Cornish league batting sensation from Norwich Nobby Nobes set about the Mayor's bowling, finding the boundary easily, including four massive sixes to score 62 not out! Point managed to get the required runs easily, with only three wickets lost.

This game was not only about winners and losers, but was actually a grand social occasion too. Mayor and Mayoress Cross organised and presented the trophy to the victorious Torpoint XI after the raffle. In what proved to be a most enjoyable day for everyone, TCC wish to thank Racquets for their sponsorship and support.

However, the day was tinged with some sadness. Some mindless morons completely destroyed the cricket nets, which are used by both youth and league players. This community facility, costing £1,000 to replace, will not be lost, so we all hope you are satisfied!
