Cricket- County Division Three
Gorran v Callington
Callington continued their climb up the table when they completed the double over a very sporting Gorran side. Andrew Shorten and Trevor Collins continued in their rich vein of form by adding 59 for the first wicket before Shorte fell for 36.
Peter Tancock joined Collins and showed what he can do when he puts his mind to it. He hit a majestic 51 including two right royal sixes before his reign at the wicket came to an end. Collins went soon after for a jug avoiding 49 and despite a mini-collapse including skipper Gareth Evely for a golden duck, Callington reacher 200 thanks to useful knocks from Vic Voyzey, Ian Hunn and Steve Wyatt. For Gorran, Rob Daniel was as dependable as ever and finished with 3-44.
Gorran's reply, as in the first match, revolved around Rob Hurrell and Dave Behennah. They added 59 before Ian Birch removed Behennah. In his next over Birch removed Hurrell and despite a useful 48 by Frank Semple, Gorran the lost their way. Simon Farris and Hunn took three wickets apiece and Birch finished a fine hostile spell by taking his third wicket in his last over. John Hurrell and Daniel denied Callington maximum points but it was Callington who again from a base of good teamwork won the game and marched up the table.
