Callington v Gorran

Callington returned to winning ways on Sunday by inflicting a heavy defeat on high fliers Gorran.

Despite losing Andrew Shorten early on, Trevor Collins and Rob Legg, in the face of hostile bowling by Rob Hurrell and Rob Daniel, took Callington to 68 before Legg fell for 36. Collins and Vic Voyzey took the score to 119 when Collins was caught for a patient 43. With only 10 overs left Voyzey then set about the bowling until succumbed in the 47th over for a brave 67. His tenacity saw Callington finish on a creditable 183.

Gorrans reply saw Hurrell and Dave Behennah set off like Casey Jones. In 4 overs they scored 26 runs before Hurrell needlessly ran himself out. Behennah and Andy Noot added 40 in 20 overs as Jon Nicholls, Ian Hunn and skipper Gareth Evely tied them down. With frustration setting in Behennah was brilliantly caught and bowled by skipper Evely and Gorrans slim chance of victory disappeared. Three more wickets, including Noot for 19, fell to Evely and on his return Ian Birch showed his real form with 2 wickets.

A defiant stand of 26 by Matt Billing and Reg Hastings was ended by a superb catch by Shorten and Gorrans innings ended on 137 giving Callington a valuable 19 point haul. Skipper Evely was the pick of the bowlers with 4-20 in 10 overs.
