Cricket- County Division Six

Tideford II v Foxhole

After two successive defeats on their travels, Tideford made a welcome return to winning ways in this re-arranged match at their St Germans ground on Sunday.

Foxhole won the toss and elected to open the batting. Jago and Maycock put on 21 for the first wicket before Swain, eager to make up for a rare wicketless performance on the previous day, removed Maycock lbw for 13. Jago batted determinedly with limited support from the middle order until finally being removed by Holland for 37.

The innings fell away to 121-7 and it appeared that even a score of 150 was beyond the visitors. Tideford then lost their concentration, assuming the innings would quickly fold. Foxhole youngsters Greet and Doherty had other ideas. Aided by some loose bowling and poor-out cricket, the score was allowed to reach a relatively competitive 178-8 at the tea interval. Doherty scored a fine unbeaten 31 and the extras gained the most runs, a very disappointing 39.

In reply, Tideford started drastically, Luff playing on for one and Holland, losing his wicket, bowled recklessly trying to play an unnecessary shot against Foxhole skipper Lambert for just four.

When Burn was removed shortly after for 13 with the score on 43, the game appeared to be in the balance. But then Olver took control of the situation, first with Ellacott, who scored a useful 17 and then Stone with a determined 14 not out, to score a superb season-best, 95 not out. Foxhole persevered gamely in the field with skipper Lambert changing his bowlers on a regular basis in an attempt to halt the flow of runs.

But Olver was not to be denied in this mood, steering Tideford home to a comfortable six wicket win.
