Cricket- County Division Six (East)

Tregony v Tideford II

Tregony won the toss and inserted the visitors on a wicket that was still slightly damp after the recent wet weather.

Tideford started disastrously, losing their first two wickets without a run being scored. At the other end, Horner was setting himself to play a long and decisive innings. Burn was bowled by Bray for eight and he was soon followed back to the pavilion by Stone, the first of three run-outs.

Shaw was looking positive until he attempted a suicidal single to mid-wicket and became the second run-out victim. R Holland came in and played some good shots until being caught of the boundary, leaving the innings in trouble at 68-6. It was at this stage that Baptie, Tideford's answer to Lance Kluesner, arrived at the wicket.

He set about the bowling to great effect and scored a career best 38. Horner was finally removed, caught and bowled Martin for 40. Bradbeer and Swain then added some useful late runs to take the score to a fairly competitive 157. Trebilcock bowled a tidy spell, returning 3-49.

In Tregony's reply, Swain and the rejuvenated Shaw bowled well to restrict the home side in the early stages of their innings, with each taking two wickets in their opening spells. Bradbeer and Holland then maintained the good start against the middle-order batsmen, with young Bradbeer claiming three wickets.

With tight bowling allied to another good performance in the field from the visitors, the expected run chase from the home side never materialised.

With Tideford's stranglehold on the match ever tightening, skipper Holland summoned up Shaw to perform the last rites on a plucky Tregony tail and in the fashion of all good seamers, he duly removed them with the minimum of fuss to end a game that had once again been played in a fine spirit.
