Possibly embarrassed by asking Saltash to bat on their own Landulph pitch, Callington proffered freebies galore in the early overs.

Cole and Stephens were soon motoring at over eight an over, but the introduction of Pemberton to the attack and tighter deliveries from Craven and Penprase soon reined the home side into reason. Wickets were still slow to fall, especially as Scott Gale, after early escapes, chose the day to really fulfil his potential. The final home total looked quite attainable on what had appeared a docile strip.

From the outset, Steve Pullen achieved a hold over the visitors' batting with his left-arm seamers. As Kev Borlase grafted and wickets fell sporadically, Steve Francis was introduced to speculate with his spinners - to some profit. There was no way back for a Callington side missing two major batsmen and the resurgent Saltash side belied their table-bottom position again.
