Cricket- County Division Seven East

Fine batting displays from both teams provided a feast of runs at Launceston. With the home team winning the toss the decision to bat was inevitable. Marchant started well, bowling Hoskin early but Budge dug in to chip away at the attack for a well deserved 51.

Wickets fell evenly and with the score on 120 for 5 after 31 overs there was light at the end of the tunnel. Unfortunately for Liskeard that light was No 7 K Lewitt who, with the speed of an inter-city express, began a head on attack. Liskeard's bowlers had run out of steam and with nowhere to hide could only watch as Lewitt raced to his unbeaten century.

As Ian Taylor and Rob Jack arrived at the crease the thought of reaching the end of the line seemed unbelievable. Jack pulled away on time with an aggressive start but Taylor began running on a different frequency. The two exchanged there usual friendly banter and by the 5th over both had tuned into the same station.

The journey progressed and as each milestone was achieved the final destination became more conceivable. With a record opening partnership of 165 under there belts the inevitable happened. Jack stalled on the track and Taylor derailed, run out for 80. As Steve Marchant purchased his ticket Jack was forced off, bowled for a career best 77. Marchant tried in vein to get back on schedule with a superb 51no but as time ran out the train just failed to make it home.
