Callington v Mullion
The John Sylvester show played in front of a home audience on Saturday. Mullion were the visitors and they opened the batting with John Trewin and Christian Bostock putting on 35 for the first wicket.
Andy Snowden and Sylvester bowled accurately to keep the runs down, and wickets fell steadily to leave Mullion on 77 for five after 29 overs. Trewin had made 36, but the bowlers were in control.
Mark Pluckrose took over from Snowden at the pavilion end and he enjoyed early success. Dave Lockwood remained on 15 on Mullion's total of 123 for nine threatened few problems. Pluckrose took three for 28 off 11, and Sylvester managed to make two for 26 off his full quota.
The chase was far from easy and Callington got off to a poor start, losing Snowdon and Jamie Hatch early on. However, Sylvester and Andy Hocking added 80 for the third wicket before the latter went for 20. The middle order all fell to Tony Matthews' seamers, and when Peter Tancock was clean bowled by Glen Jones, Callington were quivering on 120 for seven.
However, the majestic Sylvester was still there and he smashed the winning six to steer the home side to victory and take his total to an unbeaten 84 to follow his 141 not out in the previous match. Matthews took four for 30, but the day was destined to belong to Callington.
