Cricket- County Division Four
Stoke Climsland v Veryan
Stoke entertained 10-man Veryan on Monday following the disappointment of Saturday's wash-out. Captain Maunder won the toss again and opted to open the bowling.
Veryan were soon in trouble against Parker and Bennett and had slipped to 37 for five at the halfway point. M Matthews (19) was the only one of the top five to reach double figures. A stand of 29 between Moss (10) and S Matthews (26) pushed the score up and another stand of 24 between S Matthews and Riley (14) almost got Veryan to three figures, but the ninth and final wicket feel at 97. Parker finished with three for 18 from 13 overs, with Bennett on two for 23 from 16 and captain Maunder three for 25. Credit must go to S Matthews for top scoring and marshalling the Veryan lower order to a total they could bowl at.
Stoke opened with Maunder and Lambert for the first time in a league match, and the partnership did not let the side down. Maunder was put down early on an again with the score on 52, but battled through. He finally fell for 45 with the score and 88, with just 10 runs required. Kidd joined Lambert (36 n.o.) and the remaining runs were comfortably knocked off with 20 overs to spare.
Scores - Veryan 97 (S Matthews 26, M Matthews 19, Parker 3-19, Maunder 3-25), Stoke 98-1 (Maunder 45, Lambert 36 n.o., M Johns 1-16).
Stoke (20) beat Veryan (2) by nine wickets.
