Cricket- County Division Four (East)

Stoke Climsland v Tintagel

Stoke entertained Tintagel on Saturday. The visiting skipper Billington won the toss and elected to bowl first on a green, bowler friendly pitch.

Maunder and Lambert opened together adding 15 before Maunder danced down the pitch, missed and was bowled. Justin Kidd came in at number 3 and looked in good form, scoring 13 before being bowled.

Martin Firth joined Lambert and a stand began to develop. After 24 overs Billington brought himself into the attack. Initially this looked a bad move as his first three overs cost 16 runs. Indeed at 96 for 2 from 29 overs Stoke looked well placed for a big score. But the departure of Firth for an excellent 28 prompted an all too familiar collapse. Once Lambert (45) had gone to Keenan, Billington ran through the lower order. He finished with wonderful figures of 11-2-31-7 as Stoke were all out for 126 in the 44th over.

In reply Mark Rundle stepped up to open the attack in place of the absent Parker and responded well removing Brown for just 2 and young Parsons for 5 soon after. Not to be out done Bennett ripped through the middle order taking 6 for 25 from his 16 overs (including 14 wides). Rundle finished with 4 for 29 as Tintagel made 67 in 32.3 overs, with only S. Parsons (13) reaching double figures. Credit is due to 15 year old Mike vanstone in his first season as wicket-keeper for two important catches.

On a sad note, the best wishes of Stoke Climsland go to Tintagel player Gavin Roberts, currently in hospital, we hope to see you around again soon.
