Looe lost the toss and were put in on a wicket still damp from the morning rain. Dave Lockett and Will Geach bowled accurately with the ball not coming on to the bat, and they soon established a strangle-hold on the runs, with only 35 coming from 24 overs for the loss of one wicket, when Peter Nance was caught for 14.

Two more went cheaply soon after, and Looe found themselves in the unfortunate position of 42 for four. However, John Shepley and Robin Trethowan then set about restoring respectability. They enjoyed a 106-run partnership with Shepley hitting six fours and two sixes in a fine 51 and Trethowan including eight fours and two sixes in his stand of 62. Wicket-takers for Tideford were Will Geach with 3-47, Dave Lockett with 2-23 and A Bradbeer with 1-25.

Tideford started steadily, losing two early wickets, but then Gerry Snowdon and Anton came together and built a match-winning 134-run partnership. Luten hit nine fours in an excellent 69, while Snowdon remained undefeated, finishing with a fine 72 which contained nine fours and two sixes, seeing his side to victory. Looe's wicket-takers were Simon Farkey with 3-34 and Mike Pengelly, who took 1-35.
