Cricket- County Division Four (East)
Looe v Lanhydrock
Taking first use of a good batting surface, Looe were indebted to Jonathan Nance for one of the major innings of the season, which formed the backbone of a formidable total.
After Adam Nicholas was dismissed for just 12, Robin Trethowan really started to notch up the runs, scoring 36 from 35 balls in a 76-run partnership with Nance. Tim Shepley then joined Nance in another good partnership, Shepley scoring 51 from just 56 balls, including seven fours and a six, to record his maiden 50 for the club.
Nance was finally bowled for a magnificent 132, having hit 23 fours and a pair of sixes during his innings, also treating spectators with a range of shots all around the wicket. Lanhydrock's attack had a thankless task, but stuck to it well, M Austin being the most successful with a 3-70 while C Gill and K Beer took one apiece.
Lanhydrock's reply in chasing such a huge score was always going to be difficult and wickets fell at regular intervals. K Beer top-scored with a hard-hit 32, D Rice weighed in with 28 and T Smart managed 26, but nobody else did so much as reach double figures. Once again, Mike Pengelly was at his wily best, claiming 6-42 from a 15-over spell, while Tim Shepley, Peter Nance and the luckless Simon Farley took one each.
