Looe v Colan

Put in to bat on a really quick, excellent batting slip, Looe's openers Jonathan and Peter Nance certainly made hay while the sun shone. Jonathan hit a six and 12 fours in his fine innings off 88, during an outstanding 163-run opening stand.

Peter continued in great form, supported by Tim Shepley, who hit 27 in the second wicket partnership which took the score to 250 when Peter Nance was finally dismissed. He had scored a brilliant 111, batting 16 fours and a six. Two run-outs cost another couple of wickets as the visitors final dash saw them post 261 for the loss of five. Colan's bowlers all stuck to their task, Justin Wright bowling well for his 2-40 and M Currie picked up the other wicket.

Colan responded with admirable intent to get the runs, M Rundle whacking a quickfire 53 before having to retire and N James (23), J Phillips (20) and M Currie (17) all made useful contributions. L Hawkey then took up the attack, hitting a rapid 51 before being run out by a superb pick-up and throw by Timothy Shepley.

From then on, only Luscombe with 12 reached double figures and the home side closed at 197. The Looe quartet of bowlers, like Colan, had their work cut out to bowl out a side on a very good knock, but with Mike Pengelly's 3-75, Simon Farley's 2-40 and Robin Trethowan on 2-63, they achieved their goal. This match was played hard, but in good spirits, which was a credit to both teams.
