Cricket- County Division Four (East)

Liskeard v St Stephens

On another great summer's afternoon, St Stephens won the toss and elected to bat first, with Liskeard needing a win to stop their recent slide.

They took on the challenge with relish, with a little more bounce in the wicket they made life difficult for the openers. Rowe had Coggan caught at short leg for 12, A Collett settled down and batted really well, scoring freely for his 45 until Adrian Vince bowled him.

Another change in bowlers saw the introduction of Tim Hyslop and he repaid the skipper's faith in, bowling an excellent spell of seven overs, one maiden, three for 10. All the bowlers were backed up by good fielding with all but one catch being taken. Rowe after bowling 12 overs, three for 34, produced a stunning piece of fielding to have C New run out for one. The home side bowled out the opposition for 144. After tea, Liskeard knew that sensible batting would see them home, Vince and Hyslop giving them a steady start, until the latter was out with the score on 35.

Another mini-collapse soon took place as Vince went for 19, followed by another two quick wickets, leaving them at 43 for four. Enter Simon White and Kevin Clue, with some sensible batting they turned the tide, Clue then in familiar fashion started hitting all corners of the ground backed up by some great stroke play from White.

The home side reached their target with 16 overs to spare, with Clue finishing on 54 not out, including 10 fours and a six, while White managed 41 not out including six fours and a six, putting on 102 for the fifth wicket to earn Liskeard a very valuable 20 points.
