Liskeard v Looe

On a scorching afternoon, Liskeard won the toss and elected to bat on a good wicket, and they got off to a fine start with Vince promoted to opener with Hyslop playing some cracking shots, revelling in this contest with the mixed attack of Pengelly and Farley dispatching the latter for a couple of sixes until a harsh decision saw him called lbw for 26.

Thoughts of the weekend before came flooding back as they had a mini-collapse. Another marginal decision saw Hyslop being run out for 17 and at 67 for five, the home side were in trouble. But some determined batting from Skews and Clue steadied the ship until Clue was out for 22. Young then joined Skews and batted sensibly, with some good running between the pair. They put on 49 when Young was stumped for 22 trying to hit out in the last over. Skews ended on 25 not out and the total of 150 for seven, about 50 runs short, with some of the Liskeard batsmen having nightmares about their dismissals.

After tea, Looe started the chase and made it look relatively easy. There were a few loose shots but nothing going to hand. The little luck needed was not with the home side, the bowling was tight without being threatening and the longer Pete and John Nance stayed together, the easier they made it look, with some fluent stroke play. They put on 134 until Skews had John caught by Young for an excellent 73. P Shepley was caught out in the same over for a duck, Pete Nance was the next to fall for a brilliant 59 caught by Young off the bowling of Panther but the game was over Looe reaching the target in the 43rd over for the loss of three wickets. For the second time this season, the batting of the Nance family was the difference between the sides.
