Cricket- County Division Four (East)
Liskeard v Grampound Road II
On a damp wicket Grampound won the toss and put Liskeard into bat, and as thought runs were hard to come by, skipper Dave Skews hanging around for a long time for his 33. With the wicket drying out all the time a target of 160 was needed to stand a chance. Kevin Clue batted sensibly until getting an edge to the wicket-keeper for 20. Adrian Vince and Pat Gilliat both hit quick runs, with the Liskeard innings finishing on a respectible 143-9. All the Grampound attack bowled well.
Liskeard took the field after tea knowing they would have to bowl tight as the wicket was considerably better to bat on than earlier in the afternoon. They got off to a flyer getting two early wickets. Then a stand of 69 started to turn the game in favour of the visitors but three quick wickets including the vital wicket of Andy Coombes for a hard hitting 44 swayed the game back to the home side. Liskeard's bowlers kept the pressure on and ran out worthy winners with the old saying being vitally important that catches win matches. Liskeard fielders produced some superb handling.
