Cricket- County Division Four (East)
Grampound Road v Liskeard
This was a day more suited for cricket with clear blue skies and at first glance a wicket that had runs all over it, so it was a toss one just had to win.
Unfortunately Dave Skews lost it and it was going to be a long afternoon in the field as the home side decided to bat a decision both would have taken. Rowe had Manuel caught by White for I7, then came the partnership of the afternoon between A Brents and C Trudgian with some great shots and big hitting they took some wayward bowling apart putting on 149 before the latter was bowled by Rowe for a brilliant 87.
The bowlers then slowed the run rate down a little but any loose deliver was dealt with severely, Brent was eventually caught by Vince off the bowling of Rowe for a splendid 74.
Dolby hit a quick 38 not out taking Grampound Road's score to a daunting 269 for 5.
With some sensible batting Liskeard felt that they could get the target required, but the home side had other ideas and their bowlers certainly bowled better than the visitors putting pressure on the top order batsmen getting Liskeard further and further behind the clock. There were several batsmen having off days with loose shots and some excellent fielding by the home side only three reached double figure. Skews with 11, White with a fine 48 and Vince with a spirited well controlled 55 top scored, Liskeard being bowled out for 172 some 97 runs short, obviously the hot summer weather just did not suit the visitors.
