St Austell v Saltash

High riding Saltash claimed another victory and were not really extended as they made light work of chasing St Austell's total of 165. Paul Marshall and Nick Carpenter found the lively track to their liking and they ripped through the St Austell top order reducing them to 38 for 5.

D Weeks grew in confidence as the pace bowlers tired in the humid conditions and he attacked change bowlers Ross Braund and Richard Durndell to boost the total. He eventually fell to a catch taken by Carpenter off the bowling of Braund. J Rowe and M Cundy made useful runs at the bottom of the order whilst young Mark Blanks, making only his second appearance in the first team took two excellent catches top justify his selection.

Again Saltash openers Braund and Durndell Saints put on 50 for the first wicket before Braund played a rather tired shot and was bowled by Ashton. Ian Stevenson was welcomed to the crease by a beamer and two lively bouncers from Ashton but he exacted revenge soon after by sending Terry Coplin's second delivery out of the ground. He and Durndell then proceeded to knock off the runs with ease. Both compiled unbeaten half centuries. The weekend's clash with Ladock should provide a sterner test for what is a Saltash side brimming with confidence.
