Playing away at Pencarrow, Looe, eager to achieve a victory, chose to put Pencarrow into bat on winning the toss. Opening with C Bate and J Cooper, Pencarrow found runs hard to come by in the early part of their innings, and soon with less than 40 runs in the book, Pencarrow found themselves with five wickets down.

Fielding was generally impressive as far as the Looe players were concerned and drop catches were rare. A direct run out by Phil Shepley was one of the high points. It took all of 44 overs for Looe's bowlers to dispose with the Pencarrow batting line-up who managed to accumulate 89 runs. D Cook(24) and S Ambrose(28) batted well for their contribution and as for Looe, John Mason's efforts went with a well recognised 5-19.

After tea Roger Carter and Phil Shepley opened the Looe innings in fine style, knocking up runs like only they knew how quickly. After running himself ragged Carter was caught off the bowling of Cooper in the 16th over for 27 runs. This allowed George Pryce-Hughes to join Phil at the crease and it was not long before it was all over, Looe finding the runs with nine wickets in hand. For Pencarrow Cooper finished with figures of 1-5, and Phil Shepley (48) just missed out on a half century.
