LOOE’S heritage centre is offering people a convivial way to find out about the history of the harbour.
The new ‘Cream Tea and Heritage Tour’ will involve a talk over a tea or coffee from experienced guide Victoria Baldwin, a Cornish cream tea, and a look around the exhibits at the Old Sardine Factory on the waterside.
Those joining the small group tours will discover all about when the building actually was a Sardine Factory and about Joseph Thomas, who was Looe’s answer to Isambard Kingdom Brunel. Thomas designed both the famous Banjo Pier and the road to Hannafore.
Vicki has an extensive and ever-growing knowledge of Looe’s anecdotes and heritage, and is building a collection of archive postcards which she will be sharing with visitors at the talks. She said: “I am delighted to be involved with this new initiative at the Heritage Centre. Now we are allowed to open up from simply offering ‘bubble tours’, we still wanted to create an experience where people felt safe, and we hope they will be – seated at tables and being invited to get up and move closer to exhibits in controlled groups.
“The history of Looe is close to my heart and I’m keen to share it with visitors and locals alike”.
Places are limited and early booking is advisable, either online or at the Heritage Centre. Suitable for ages 10 and up.
Tours will run each Wednesday throughout the summer season, starting on Wednesday July 28.
